Product Overview
Kit for installing Dual Electric Fans from 1989 Nissan Maxima fan assembly in Land Rover Discovery 2. Kit includes wire harness, fuse panel with fuses and relays, fuse panel mounting bracket, fan shroud mounting brackets and all hardware needed EXCEPT the fan assembly and controller, customer to provide those components (recommendations below).
Key Benefits Include:
Wiring harness includes accessory fuse panel and mounting bracket with 40a fuses for fans and 10a fuses for relays. Simple wiring connection vehicle with ground lugs and positive battery lugs installed, fan controller leads to relays, all color coded. Fan connectors plug directly in to Maxima fan assembly. Any fan controller can be made to work easily by connecting controller trigger wire to the relay trigger wires (four total), everything from a simple single toggle switch to a complex multi-stage programmable fan controller. Extinct Motorsports recommends the Craig Davies Thermatic Fan Switch with built in temperature gauge(https://daviescraig.com/blog/davies-craig-digital-gauge-thermatic-fanewp-switch-kit) This gauge includes programmable alarm and control settings as well as manual control buttons. It can also be combined with threaded temperature sensor (part #0465 from Davies Craig https://daviescraig.com.au/product/npt-thermal-sensor-upgrade-kit-0465)that can easily be installed in a inline thermostat housing port for a clean installation
Maxima fans were selected because they are two speed with higher airflow than all competitors (Taurus, Fusion, etc) and the shroud fits the D2 radiator almost perfectly (two small notches for the radiator outlets - see photos). The fan assembly is available from Amazon, RockAuto, etc at around $100. Entire kit is lifetime warrantied (not including fan assembly or controller from third party).

FAQ's
The kit is designed to install dual electric fans from a 1989 Nissan Maxima fan assembly into a Land Rover Discovery 2 (D2). It replaces the stock clutch fan to improve engine cooling, increase airflow, and resolve issues like low-speed temperature creep.
The kit is specifically designed for the Discovery 2. For other models, modifications may be needed (e.g., different mounting brackets or fan shroud adjustments). Extinct Motorsports may develop custom kits if demand is sufficient.
The kit comes with a lifetime warranty, excluding the fan assembly and controller, which are third-party components.
The product page links to a blog post and video titled “Upgrading D2 Engine Cooling Using Dual Electric Fans,” which details the kit’s engineering, testing, and real-world performance.

Fans may not run at highway speeds in cooler conditions, reducing engine load.
Eliminates parasitic drag from the stock clutch fan.
More airflow across the AC condenser.
Minimal airflow across the radiator until needed.
Easier to service accessory pulleys, power steering pump, and water pump.
Removes the risk of an exploding clutch fan damaging underhood components.
The dual electric fans increase airflow by 70% over the factory clutch fan, eliminating low-speed temperature creep during idle or off-roading. They also prevent overheating by providing consistent cooling, even in stop-and-go traffic.
The stock clutch fan on D2s can explode, damaging radiator hoses, transmission hoses, and other components. By replacing it with electric fans, the kit eliminates this risk entirely.
At cooler ambient temperatures, the fans may not activate at highway speeds, reducing engine drag and improving fuel efficiency, depending on your thermostat and controller settings.
Yes, the increased airflow helps maintain stable engine temperatures during low-speed off-roading, preventing overheating in challenging conditions.
The kit includes a wire harness, fuse panel with fuses and relays, a fuse panel mounting bracket, fan shroud mounting brackets, and all necessary hardware except for the fan assembly and controller, which the customer must provide.
The Maxima fan assembly was selected for its two-speed functionality, higher airflow compared to competitors (e.g., Taurus, Fusion), and near-perfect fit for the D2 radiator, requiring only minor notches for the radiator outlets.
The kit is designed to work with a 1989-1994 Nissan Maxima fan assembly, which Extinct Motorsports selected for its superior airflow and fit. You can purchase this fan assembly from online retailers like Amazon or RockAuto, where they typically cost around $100. Ensure you’re getting the correct model year (1989-1994) to match the kit’s connectors and shroud design.
Extinct Motorsports recommends the Davies Craig Thermatic Fan Switch with a built-in temperature gauge. This controller offers programmable alarm and control settings, as well as manual control buttons for precise temperature management. We also recommend the optional Thermal Sensor Upgrade Kit for installation into an inline thermostat housing for clean installation.
Extinct Motorsports recommends the Davies Craig Thermatic Fan Switch with a built-in temperature gauge (part number 0500). You can purchase it directly from the Davies Craig website or through automotive retailers like Demon Tweeks or Auto One. It’s also available on Amazon, often with free delivery on eligible purchases. Be sure to check for the correct part number and voltage compatibility (12V or 24V) for your vehicle.
Yes, the kit supports manual control, allowing you to turn the fans on for steep climbs or off for water crossings, depending on your fan controller setup.
Yes, the wiring harness is flexible and can work with any fan controller, from a simple toggle switch to a multi-stage programmable controller. The kit includes four relay trigger wires for easy integration.
The kit is tailored for the Land Rover Discovery 2 radiator. The Maxima fan shroud fits almost perfectly, requiring only minor notches. If you have a non-standard radiator, contact Extinct Motorsports for guidance.
The kit is designed for plug-and-play installation with color-coded wiring and direct-fit connectors for the Maxima fan assembly. Detailed written instructions are provided, along with a video blog for visual guidance. Basic mechanical skills are required.
Written installation instructions are available on the Extinct Motorsports website: Installation Instructions. Additionally, a video blog and written blog post provide step-by-step guidance.
While professional installation is not required, some mechanical knowledge is helpful. The kit is designed for straightforward installation, and the provided resources (instructions, video) guide you through the process.
The kit’s wiring harness is designed for easy integration with a gauge controller like the recommended Davies Craig Thermatic Fan Switch. The harness includes four relay trigger wires, which you connect to the controller’s trigger wire. The harness also has color-coded ground and positive battery lugs for simple connection to your vehicle’s battery. For the Davies Craig controller, insert the temperature probe into the radiator fins or coolant system (using an adaptor kit if needed), then connect the controller’s power, ground, and fan output wires to the kit’s harness as per the included instructions. Always ensure proper grounding and secure connections to avoid electrical issues.
